Reed Exhibitions y Alcantara Machado agree to joint venture
New Company Is South America’s Largest Tradeshow and Events Organizer.
(Sao Paulo, Brazil April 9) – Reed Exhibitions and Alcantara Machado have agreed to expand their current joint venture in Brazil, with Reed Exhibitions acquiring a majority interest in 26 tradeshows and the two companies forming Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado (RXAM).
The transaction was signed April 5 and builds on a successful two-year partnership that has included joint ownership of the major construction and building event Feicon BATIMAT, and launch of two new events – ISC Brazil (physical security) and SISP (real estate).
With 26 events encompassing industries such as automotive, machine tools, plastics, packaging, cosmetics, transportation infrastructure, manufacturing and digital imaging, RXAM will be the leading tradeshow organizer in South America. By joining with Reed Exhibitions, Alcantara Machado has opened the door to new opportunities to build trade and commerce for its Brazilian and South American customers through the world’s leading tradeshow and event organizer.
“Alcantara Machado pioneered exhibitions in Brazil, starting in 1956,” said Alcantara Machado’s President José Rafael Guagliardi. “With this partnership, we have ensured that we can continue to provide leadership in South America and further support Brazil’s economic development through closer ties and relationships with customers and markets in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America.”
Reed Exhibitions has been active in the Mercosur since 1996 and today’s announcement marks the culmination of a long-term strategy to establish a dynamic business-to-business platform in one of the world’s most important economies.
“Rafael and his team have done an outstanding job in developing South America’s number one tradeshow business,” said Mike Rusbridge, Chairman of Reed Exhibitions. “Their commitment to quality, value and growth is a perfect match for Reed’s global business and together, now in Brazil as Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, we believe we can deliver the contacts, content and community for our customers that not only offers the power to transform their business, but promises to become an even more powerful engine for the development of Brazilian trade.”
Guagliardi will remain as chairman of RXAM. Reed’s Managing Director for Brazil, Juan Pablo de Vera, will manage the venture, reporting to Marco Giberti, president of Reed Latin America. RXAM is part of Reed Americas, which owns and organizes tradeshows and events in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.
Terms of the transaction were not announced.
